SpecPack has been designed according to the KIS principle: keep it simple. As David Nall explains, “Builders are not impressed by disorderly, long specifications which they cannot understand.” He uses a system that is structured and orderly, in which every trade section has an identical, easy-to-read format. The first SpecPack was published in 1987, and it is now in its 24th Edition.

The system includes about 125 trade sections (consisting of basic data with editing symbols to indicate where variables need to be inserted or deleted), preliminary documents, checklists and some schedules. Hidden text within the document gives extra information to the specifier.

SpecPack is designed for larger architectural projects, those valued at $3 million or more, where the specification needs to be as clear and concise as possible, and quality control must be at a premium.

SpecPack is not a computer program. It requires word-processing only. It consists of a CD containing simple Word documents for PC or Mac. The trade sections are written in the three-part format developed in the United States by the Construction Specification Institute*.
SPECPACK IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR USE IN USA.

According to David Nall, “A good specification assumes that a builder and the sub-contractors are skilled; it needs to be as clear and as accurate as the drawings.”

SPECPACK IS NOT AVAILABLE OUTSIDE AUSTRALIA.
